(Comparatives & Superlatives)

(Comparatives & Superlatives)

比较两个事物用比较级(bigger, more famous),比较三个或更多用最高级(the biggest, the most famous)。单音节形容词加 -er / -est,多音节形容词前加 more / most,最高级前面要加 the。最高级后面常跟 of all time, in the world, of the 19th century 这类范围。 一样"用 as + 原级 + as,否定是 not as (so) … as。 本课介绍水晶宫,作者用 the most extraordinary building, one of the biggest buildings, not as easy as it is today 等结构来突出它的独特。

单音节 big / easy bigger / easier the biggest / the easiest
多音节 famous / wonderful more famous / more wonderful the most famous / the most wonderful
不规则 good / many better / more the best / the most

(Simple Past) · Perhaps + the most + 形容词 + 名词 + of + 范围 + was + 名词 + 定语从句 (which was built …)

    • of the 19th century 限定比较范围
    • which was built in Hyde Park

  2. 2The Crystal Palace was different from all other buildings in the world, for it was made of iron and glass.

一般过去时 (Simple Past) · 主语 + was different from + all other + 复数名词, for + 主语 + was made of + 材料

    • be different from = 与…不同
    • all other buildings:其他所有建筑,用复数

    • one of the biggest buildings:最高级后接复数名词

    一般过去时 + 一般现在时 (Simple Past + Simple Present) · Though + 主语 + was not as + 形容词 + as + 主语 + is today, + 主语 + carried + 宾语 + across …

    • not as easy as = 不如…
